10 year old embroiderer…

14 Nov

My 10 year old thinks that a plain t-shirt is well, plain. ¬†Since I got this embroidery machine the children are apt to say “Mom you could embroider that for me!

With home educating, and my many other duties of wife and mother, and a small family business, I can’t just embroider for them any time. ūüė¶ ¬†So, I got the idea that if he wanted to help, why sure, he could have his shirts embroidered!

He agreed to babysit the machine and embroider these t-shirts he recently got as hand me overs from friends…

¬†He needed to keep the rest of the shirt out of the way…

¬†Then there are the thread changes…

¬†This bird design was at least an hour in the making…

5 shirts, we did 3 on Friday and 2 on Saturday, almost 5 hours of embroidering.

He did a great job!! A++ and now he has some wonderful shirts!!

Musings on Machine Embroidery…

14 Jul

I have just been so thankful for my Esante embroidery machine.

A couple of years ago when I got this machine from Linda at Domestic Sewing Center in Warren, Ohio I was wanting an embroidery machine but wasn’t really able to afford it.

We have worked hard to pay this machine off and are still paying, but the things we can do on it bless us and others so much.

Here are some things we have been able to do…

A gift at a recent baby shower…Olivia actually copied the embroidery machine flowers and hand stitched them herself on the shoes!

Personalized baby bloomers…a custom order for a grandma…

These big sister/little sister tee’s ( I know the girls are much sweeter than the shirts! ūüôā

And this detailed quilt, all done ” in the hoop” on our machine.. ¬†We are not sure whether to use it as a quilt or take the blocks apart for pillows, table runners, bed scarfs, etc. ¬†I actually have it apart again now waiting for the final decision.

The children all helped with this they like to run the machine and see the patterns being stitched out.  We used this as an art lesson in our home education program for this summer.  I am very pleased with how it turned out for them.

Thank you Linda and all at Domestic Sewing Center for our Esante!

Learning a new skill…

16 Jun

I’m learning a new skill…

Take life as it comes…

This is so foreign to me, but the Lord, through my health has ordained it.

Once upon a time there was a girl who took life by the horns and tamed it for her self.

At least she thought she did. ¬†She ordered her world. ¬†She was what my dear 92 year old friend calls a “go getter”.

One day the “go getter” got up and the go was gone!!! ¬† But life was continuing to go on.

For the past 3 months that has been me.  Still running the house hold but a lot of times from a sitting position or laying.  Instead of leading the charge.

There have been times of activity.  Like my morning walk.  I go out early with one or two of my children and we talk and walk 2 miles.  Good for the heart and soul.   Some days that was it.

I have puttered in the garden.  Wednesdays I hang the laundry out.  Thursdays I cook dinner.

Our sewing business was very busy in March and April, then in May it dropped considerably and this month I would consider slow. ¬†It is not bad, just slow. ¬†As I consider this I see that March and April toasted me. ¬†Not only did we sew, I taught some of the children’s school. ¬†And managed the house hold.

For what ever reason my body didn’t hold up to this regime. ¬†So, this week especially has been a humbling, not very pretty experience for myself and my husband and children.

Last Sunday was our  Sunday to sing at the nursing home.  I stayed home and rested.

Monday broke and after a long Sunday like that everyone was tired and grumpy to put it mildly ūüôā

I am on Jury duty this week and next so the stress of wondering if they were going to call me in was pulling at my mind.

I looked at the books and we had 8 orders this week. ¬†That is good, but so tame that it didn’t feel like a lot. ¬†Excepting one that was a custom dress for a little girl with a feeding tube. ¬†First time with the pattern made it a learning experience and it was slow going because I have been weak and very tired.

Last Monday, when our normal school was finished, normal being categorized as the main subjects completed and just my high school boys needing to finish their biology, and my middle school children are going to do 1/2 a math lesson all summer to keep sharp. ¬† Normal school being finished I thought we could do some fiber art! ¬†We have an embroidery machine and a quilt pattern for a beautiful “Prayer Garden” quilt. ¬†So, we worked out our fabrics and our layout and the children and I have been stitching blocks, which we will sew together and then quilt. ¬†The boys are all doing this also, as it involves a machine ūüôā

So, those quilt blocks happened through the week. ¬†I’ll do a post on it when it is done.

Friday we had a birthday party and the girls made these skirts for twin girls at our church…

As I am writing this I am embroidering the last of the blocks to make into the quilt.  It has been nice to be able to do something while my strength has been low.

This week seemed to happen to me instead of me planning it. ¬† It is Saturday, I see that through mercy we have completed another week. ¬†We are getting ready to enjoy the Sabbath. ¬†One child ¬†is showered, one is showering 9 to go. ¬†Dinner is just about ready. ¬†My husband will be home from his little Saturday job soon. ¬†The little boys bath will be next and we’ll start getting our clothes ready to iron.

As I read over this to check for mistakes I see that the quilt blocks were a little much to put on us. ¬†If I would have just let the children work at them a little at a time maybe over a month, it may have been more enjoyable. ¬†But I see that I did drive that one. ¬†The new skill of life happening isn’t easy to learn, but I know the sooner I learn it the more peaceful our home will be.

Lord, help me to receive life with thankfulness from your hands.  I want to learn to live for today, and not borrow from  tomorrow or moan over yesterday.  I am being very transparent here, my melancholy analyzing, has not been serving me this last few months, it has actually been doing me in!

If I can cast my cares on Him, because He cares for me and receive His sunshine or rain as in my best interest, because in truth it is in my best interest, because He loves me perfectly, I believe as my soul prospers in these truths, my body will begin to mend and prosper. ¬†Cares, worries, and the might be’s are drying me up from the inside out.

Lord, forgive me for being blind to your truths and questioning your love for me in particular.  Somehow I believe you can love others so easily, but me??  I know in my mind you do, and I thank you for that, but in my heart, I really need you to make that real to me.

I know you hear and answer prayer.  Thank you.  Bless all your children.  Give them all a beautiful Sabbath day.  Help us to remember you and what your son Jesus did for us on that cross.  Make your love real to all our hearts.  Revive us and renew us!  Amen!

This is our garden, it takes each day as it comes… ¬†my oldest son is our head gardener, he is making sure the plants are watered for tomorrow, it has been dry here.

Aren’t these snow pea blossoms beautiful? ¬†The Bible says to consider the lilies how they grow, they don’t toil, and our heavenly Father cares more for us much more than them. ¬†The same goes for ¬†these sweet little pea blossoms. ¬† Simple lessons, why so hard to learn and assimilate???

Embroidery for the family…

28 Apr

I found some t-shirts at Marc’s the other day, 2 for .99 I had to grab them.

My husband wears t-shirts for his work.

I embroidered them yesterday and today, 3 for my husband, and the other 5 for my sons.

Then they had some toddler sizes so, I couldn’t pass those up either. ¬†I like for my boys to look neat. ¬†Especially home educating, I require them to show up dressed clean for school in the morning. ¬†Part of ¬†loving your neighbor. ¬†Not that a plain t-shirt isn’t O.K., but this Mama doesn’t want her boys wishing she would sew for them instead of everybody else! ¬†They are my priority.

These pictures aren’t so great, but I’ve been sewing a lot today. ūüôā

I am so thankful for this embroidery machine! It has really been a blessing!

Time to get upstairs and get the children to bed!  And Mama too!

2 Birthdays and lots of work!..

5 Apr

We have an April 1st baby and an April 4th baby.  They are now 12 and 10 respectively, time flies!!

Her sister made her this fun dress for her birthday…

I was able to embroider these shirts for him just before his birthday dinner.  I let him choose the patterns.

I made this apron yesterday too, it was for a custom order, she came over and said she wanted a fun apron, she works at a green house so she wanted something durable. ¬†I fully lined it and then for fun made her first initial out of a little font that has a plant running through it. ¬†I couldn’t ¬†decide where to put it so I lined it and made it into a pin that she can place where ever she wants. ¬†I have to say it brought me joy to do this apron for her. ¬†She picked it up today and wore it home, she liked it so much ūüôā

We are winding down from last month.   Ready for a spring break, we took this week off school in order to finish up orders, and will get back to school next week.  Now tomorrow maybe an Easter dress for mommy and some pants for the two little boys.  I hope..

Had a huge day,  just wanted to recap.

Thankful, thankful, thankful!

A day to finish projects…

24 Mar

We have been finishing up projects around here. ¬†With our flood last Saturday, ¬†and most of us exhausted from that we just didn’t get to doing things like we would normally.

The older boys bought a larger engine for our lawn tractor last Saturday.  They worked on it a little each afternoon after school and today they mowed with it.

I am so impressed! The engine was from a large air compressor and they are making our very old tractor run and mow with it!   A++  at ingenuity, perseverance, and trouble-shooting!

These guys are growing into men…

Now, the girls and I have been sewing. ¬†So funny with machines in the office and machines in the sewing room and oh, it really wasn’t funny! ¬†But we got a lot of orders for Easter, and God provided the sanity Grace so I and the girls could cope. ¬†They have grown up with a very orderly, everything has a place and there is a place for everything mother. ¬†So, I saw it wearing on them too!!

Today, my husband put my sewing room temporarily back together until the new flooring comes in.

I cut out a lot and then got to sew some.  This is an order for a very sweet lady who is adopting a little Haitian girl.  And wants her to have some pretty things to come home in.

This little dress was what I call a God idea. The machine applique embroidery and flounce hem were an inspiration from Him, gotta give credit where credit is due. ¬†I can’t think all these things up on my own!! ūüôā

Both of these dresses were designed especially for the little girl because when her mama first saw her in the orphanage after the 2010 earthquake she was wearing a little red polka dot dress. I hope she is thrilled!

The children are upstairs singing. ¬†It is time for a sabbath rest! ¬†Church, a great message from God’s Word. ¬†Fellowship with fellow believers. ¬†This is a grand thing!

Father, help us to love each other with Your love.  Amen.
