Musings on Machine Embroidery…

14 Jul

I have just been so thankful for my Esante embroidery machine.

A couple of years ago when I got this machine from Linda at Domestic Sewing Center in Warren, Ohio I was wanting an embroidery machine but wasn’t really able to afford it.

We have worked hard to pay this machine off and are still paying, but the things we can do on it bless us and others so much.

Here are some things we have been able to do…

A gift at a recent baby shower…Olivia actually copied the embroidery machine flowers and hand stitched them herself on the shoes!

Personalized baby bloomers…a custom order for a grandma…

These big sister/little sister tee’s ( I know the girls are much sweeter than the shirts! ūüôā

And this detailed quilt, all done ” in the hoop” on our machine.. ¬†We are not sure whether to use it as a quilt or take the blocks apart for pillows, table runners, bed scarfs, etc. ¬†I actually have it apart again now waiting for the final decision.

The children all helped with this they like to run the machine and see the patterns being stitched out.  We used this as an art lesson in our home education program for this summer.  I am very pleased with how it turned out for them.

Thank you Linda and all at Domestic Sewing Center for our Esante!

Learning a new skill…

16 Jun

I’m learning a new skill…

Take life as it comes…

This is so foreign to me, but the Lord, through my health has ordained it.

Once upon a time there was a girl who took life by the horns and tamed it for her self.

At least she thought she did. ¬†She ordered her world. ¬†She was what my dear 92 year old friend calls a “go getter”.

One day the “go getter” got up and the go was gone!!! ¬† But life was continuing to go on.

For the past 3 months that has been me.  Still running the house hold but a lot of times from a sitting position or laying.  Instead of leading the charge.

There have been times of activity.  Like my morning walk.  I go out early with one or two of my children and we talk and walk 2 miles.  Good for the heart and soul.   Some days that was it.

I have puttered in the garden.  Wednesdays I hang the laundry out.  Thursdays I cook dinner.

Our sewing business was very busy in March and April, then in May it dropped considerably and this month I would consider slow. ¬†It is not bad, just slow. ¬†As I consider this I see that March and April toasted me. ¬†Not only did we sew, I taught some of the children’s school. ¬†And managed the house hold.

For what ever reason my body didn’t hold up to this regime. ¬†So, this week especially has been a humbling, not very pretty experience for myself and my husband and children.

Last Sunday was our  Sunday to sing at the nursing home.  I stayed home and rested.

Monday broke and after a long Sunday like that everyone was tired and grumpy to put it mildly ūüôā

I am on Jury duty this week and next so the stress of wondering if they were going to call me in was pulling at my mind.

I looked at the books and we had 8 orders this week. ¬†That is good, but so tame that it didn’t feel like a lot. ¬†Excepting one that was a custom dress for a little girl with a feeding tube. ¬†First time with the pattern made it a learning experience and it was slow going because I have been weak and very tired.

Last Monday, when our normal school was finished, normal being categorized as the main subjects completed and just my high school boys needing to finish their biology, and my middle school children are going to do 1/2 a math lesson all summer to keep sharp. ¬† Normal school being finished I thought we could do some fiber art! ¬†We have an embroidery machine and a quilt pattern for a beautiful “Prayer Garden” quilt. ¬†So, we worked out our fabrics and our layout and the children and I have been stitching blocks, which we will sew together and then quilt. ¬†The boys are all doing this also, as it involves a machine ūüôā

So, those quilt blocks happened through the week. ¬†I’ll do a post on it when it is done.

Friday we had a birthday party and the girls made these skirts for twin girls at our church…

As I am writing this I am embroidering the last of the blocks to make into the quilt.  It has been nice to be able to do something while my strength has been low.

This week seemed to happen to me instead of me planning it. ¬† It is Saturday, I see that through mercy we have completed another week. ¬†We are getting ready to enjoy the Sabbath. ¬†One child ¬†is showered, one is showering 9 to go. ¬†Dinner is just about ready. ¬†My husband will be home from his little Saturday job soon. ¬†The little boys bath will be next and we’ll start getting our clothes ready to iron.

As I read over this to check for mistakes I see that the quilt blocks were a little much to put on us. ¬†If I would have just let the children work at them a little at a time maybe over a month, it may have been more enjoyable. ¬†But I see that I did drive that one. ¬†The new skill of life happening isn’t easy to learn, but I know the sooner I learn it the more peaceful our home will be.

Lord, help me to receive life with thankfulness from your hands.  I want to learn to live for today, and not borrow from  tomorrow or moan over yesterday.  I am being very transparent here, my melancholy analyzing, has not been serving me this last few months, it has actually been doing me in!

If I can cast my cares on Him, because He cares for me and receive His sunshine or rain as in my best interest, because in truth it is in my best interest, because He loves me perfectly, I believe as my soul prospers in these truths, my body will begin to mend and prosper. ¬†Cares, worries, and the might be’s are drying me up from the inside out.

Lord, forgive me for being blind to your truths and questioning your love for me in particular.  Somehow I believe you can love others so easily, but me??  I know in my mind you do, and I thank you for that, but in my heart, I really need you to make that real to me.

I know you hear and answer prayer.  Thank you.  Bless all your children.  Give them all a beautiful Sabbath day.  Help us to remember you and what your son Jesus did for us on that cross.  Make your love real to all our hearts.  Revive us and renew us!  Amen!

This is our garden, it takes each day as it comes… ¬†my oldest son is our head gardener, he is making sure the plants are watered for tomorrow, it has been dry here.

Aren’t these snow pea blossoms beautiful? ¬†The Bible says to consider the lilies how they grow, they don’t toil, and our heavenly Father cares more for us much more than them. ¬†The same goes for ¬†these sweet little pea blossoms. ¬† Simple lessons, why so hard to learn and assimilate???

Embroidery for the family…

28 Apr

I found some t-shirts at Marc’s the other day, 2 for .99 I had to grab them.

My husband wears t-shirts for his work.

I embroidered them yesterday and today, 3 for my husband, and the other 5 for my sons.

Then they had some toddler sizes so, I couldn’t pass those up either. ¬†I like for my boys to look neat. ¬†Especially home educating, I require them to show up dressed clean for school in the morning. ¬†Part of ¬†loving your neighbor. ¬†Not that a plain t-shirt isn’t O.K., but this Mama doesn’t want her boys wishing she would sew for them instead of everybody else! ¬†They are my priority.

These pictures aren’t so great, but I’ve been sewing a lot today. ūüôā

I am so thankful for this embroidery machine! It has really been a blessing!

Time to get upstairs and get the children to bed!  And Mama too!

Home sewing…

23 Dec

Wednesday and Thursday were home sewing days.  Got some gifts done!

My boys bought fleece for their brothers for hooded sweatshirts. And I had some fun embroidering yesterday!

¬†We, Olivia, Victoria, and I did sweat pants, dish towels, flannel pajama pants, ¬†a hooded jacket, neck ties, whew! ¬†We had to get our sewing done because 2 of my machines are going into the shop today for sorely needed maintenance. ¬†They are faithful friends! ¬†I’m so used to them! I hope they are good to go for a few more years!

In the bottom picture you can see the bag Victoria made for her brother’s music! ¬†Very lovely idea!

On to finish up before we leave late this morning!

Personalized baby bloomers…

1 Oct

My niece is having a baby girl, her shower was today..

I wanted to do something with my embroidery machine…

I decided to do a blanket, but the baby isn’t here yet and we want to put the date on the blanket.

We used brown fleece and added satin binding, cause babies like soft binding…my dear Victoria basted this binding on so it would be perfect on each side. ¬†Sorry no picture yet:-)

We just had fun..

An I love Daddy and Mommy reversible bib.

Flannel burp cloths..

Victoria made these adorable infant headbands! They turned out awesome!

And these precious bloomers, we got the initials of the baby, even though they don’t want to tell the name. ūüôā

These bloomers are 100% American made in our home..

That is exciting!  The fabric is 100% cotton, and the embroidery is done on my machine!  Jennifer loved them, I am so glad for her!

I’m going to put these up on our website soon!

Happy Birthday….

7 Jul

My husband celebrated his birthday on July 2, we ate outside, we love to eat outside. ¬†When it is summer of course! ¬†I wanted to show and tell what the girl’s made for their Daddy.

Here is the birthday boy with his dinner. ¬†He is eating and I caught him with his mouth full, so, his cheeks are a little fuller than in real life ūüôā ¬†Still very handsome!

This is a news boy hat Olivia and Victoria made for their Daddy, there is denim on the reverse side.  They did a great job on it!

Then, they made him this lunch bag for work.  It is wonderful!  It is denim on the outside with John Deere fabric on the inside quilted and lined with warm and natural quilt batting for insulation.  Then they put a sturdy interfacing on the bottom so it stands up.  They altered the pattern to put 2 pockets, one on each side for water bottles.  Then it has a drawstring to close and keep his lunch cool.

They made a big loop so Daddy could hang it up where he was working if he wanted.  Last but not least they embroidered his business name and one of his favorite verses on the front.

I am so pleased with these girl’s sewing ability. ¬†One of the reasons I started sewing for other’s was so they could learn to sew well. ¬†They are on their way to surpassing me! ¬†One thing they do much better than me is read patterns. ¬† Their top stitching is excellent. ¬†Especially Olivia, who is more painstaking than Victoria. ¬† They are also learning good business practice. ¬†Book keeping, web design, making business calls, ¬†sewing machine maintenance and care. ¬†More things than I bargained for!

Their Daddy was very happy with his gifts.  And I am happy with theirs.

John 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life:  no man cometh unto the Father but by me.

We are thankful He has shown us the Way!  God is the best Father of all!

More embroidery…

30 Jun

Here are some shirts for my other boys…

¬†¬†The boy’s were thrilled with these! ¬†I like to bless them!

While the embroidery machine was running I could get some other sewing done too. ¬†Some of these designs, the Semi cab, especially was more intense with thread changes. ¬†I am almost caught up with sewing, for my family. ¬†That will be a banner day! ¬†I have to finish my oldest sons jeans. ¬†I am avoiding them. ¬†Because of the wear and tear they put on my machine. ¬†But now that all my other mending and sewing is done, I’m going to have to face them and just finish them ūüôā

I have two orders to fill tomorrow, and then I’ll face “The Jeans…” ¬†I’m off to cook dinner.
