Begin by sewing 16 quilt blocks as shown in the diagrams below..

Note: large scripture block assembly is used for 4 blocks that have no scripture. For quilt blocks, the C piece replaces the LS square.

  • Thus you will be constructing 6 large scripture blocks with LS piece. And 4 with the LS piece replaced by C piece.
  • And 6 small scripture blocks … for your total of 16 blocks

Layout for arranging blocks

After assembling 16 blocks build your rows by adding the short sashing pieces in between each block.

Add 1.5″ sashing to the right of each quilt block.  Then lastly add 1.5″ sashing to the left of each block at the beginning of each of the 4 rows consisting of 4 blocks.

blocks assembled to rows

When 4 rows of 4 blocks are assembled with sashing proceed to assembling rows vertically to finish quilt top..

Sew WOF 1.5″ sashing to top of each assembled row. On the bottom row of 4 blocks sew 1.5″ sashing to the bottom also totaling five – 1.5 inch WOF sashings added to quilt.  Then sew rows to each other using finished quilt picture below as guide for placement.

For border sew WOF 2.5 inch pieces to the top and bottom of assembled rows.

For side border, stitch 3 WOF pieces together along 45 degree cut just like bias binding as shown here.  Then attach to one side using as much length as necessary. Use remaining  piece for the quilt border on other side.

For back of quilt cut two 6.5″ WOF pieces. Sew together with 45 degree angle. Cut rest of backing fabric down center fold.  Sew  6.5″  piece in between two vertical stripe pieces for back.
